S.E.T.I. stands for the Search for Extra-Terrestrial Intelligence. It is a field of research grouping activities to detect intelligent extraterrestial life. Its general approach is to survey the sky for radio transmissions, or optical beams.
Active SETI takes a more direct approach to the subject of searching for intelligent life forms in the universe. Instead of listening for a signal from outer space; Active SETI is concerned by the creation and transmission of messages to outer space. While "regular" SETI is a well known and approved field of research, Active SETI is still a controversial topic.
Active SETI is also known by the term "CETI", which stands for Communication with Extra-Terrestrial Intelligence; and "METI" (Message to ETI).
Who are we ?
We are two Canadian physicists with a passion for SETI. Since its beginning, the Search for Extra-Terrestrial Intelligence fascinated us. We got involved in Active SETI by accident. In 1998, a group of people were interested in sending a message to the stars (i.e. Cosmic Call). We proposed our help to proof-read there message but ended-up writing it.
Our main interest in Active SETI is the construction of the message itself. Creating a message to be easily decoded by an alien civilisation can be helpfull to understand what to look for in a message from outer space. The goal of this web site is to inform people on our projects concerning Active SETI. You will find the documentations about our own messages, the concepts behind them, our ideoglyphs system and a lot of information related to SETI and Active SETI. The work is done during our free time and without any financial support. We invite you to read the section related to our messages from the Evpatoria radio-telescope in 1999 and 2003. Since then, our work has been known through newspapers, books and magazines.

S.E.T.I. signifie Search for Extra-Terrestrial Intelligence. C'est la recherche de vie intelligente dans l'univers et regroupe plusieurs activités portant sur la détection de forme de vie intelligence. Son approche est f'observrer le ciel dans le domaine des ondes radio et optique pour y détecter un signal artificiel.
Active SETI est la contre-partie plus direct de SETI. Son domaine d'activité est davantage la conception et la transmission de signaux plutôt que l'écoute. Bien que SETI soit une activité bien connue et approuvée par la communauté scientifique, Active SETI demeure le sujet de bien des discussions.
Active SETI est aussi connu sous l'appellation CETI (Communication with Extra-Terrestrial Intelligence) et METI (Message to ETI).
Qui sommes-nous ?
Nous sommes deux physiciens canadiens mordus de SETI. Depuis sa création, le programme de recherche de SETI nous a fasciné. Notre implication dans le domaine d'Active SETI est venue par hazard. En 1998, un groupe de gens voulaient envoyer un message vers les étoiles (c.-à-d. Cosmic Call). Nous leur avons proposé notre aide pour la vérification du message mais avons eu le mandat de le faire au complet.
Notre intérêt pour Active SETI repose davantage sur la conception du message même. La création d'un message pouvait être facilement décodé par une civilisation extraterrestre peut nous informer sur quel aspect examiner dans un message provenant des étoiles. Le but de ce site est d'informer les gens sur nos projets reliés à SETI. Vous y trouverez aussi de la documentation sur nos messages, les concepts sousjacents ainsi que sur l'alphabet utilisé. Il y a aussi beaucoup d'information, sous forme de liens, au sujet de SETI et d'Active SETI. Nos travaux sont réalisés durant nos temps libre et sans support financier.
